Take Out Shoes

When you buy a pair of new shoes, do you wear the new ones out of the shop? Or do you take them home in a box? I mean a pair of walking shoes. The ones you wear for doing things. The most comfortable pair of shoes. Probably the ones you wear most often.

The sales person would ask, "So would you like to wear these out? Let us dispose of your old shoes?" I would usually reply, "No, I'd like to wear them for one last day. I'll take the news ones out in its box." It's like saying good bye to an old friend. I bought a pair of new shoes today, and it was no exception. I couldn't just put on a pair of new shoes right there and then. I needed to farewell my old friends in my own way. Afterall, we did go through a lot together over the past couple of years. We didn't fit each other too well at first, but slowly and surely the pinching eased, exterior softened and our soles molded. They would still hold the shape of my feet after I've taken them off at the end of the day. We walked, we stumbled, we skipped and we ran, we jumped into puddles, we tripped and we danced. Now it's time to do that all over again with a new pair.
